At Phoenix Electric, we have often been asked about Federal Pacific Panel and if they are fire hazard. Since we are an electrical company in Portland Oregon and have something to gain, it is my opinion not to scare the person into changing out the old Federal Pacific panel but to give the right information to help them make up their own mind. Here are some websites that I found very helpful.
- InspectAPedia
- From Underwriters Laboratories .pdf page 13
- From Consumer Product and Safety Commission (CPSC) Official Federal Agency website (pdf). There is more information if you search on their website.
The three websitse above do not have anything to gain unlike me. I also know that InspectApedia recommends that residential FPE Stab-Lok electrical panels be replaced entirely or the entire panel bus assembly be replaced entirely, regardless of model number or year of manufacture. Underwriters Laboratories recommends against replacing individual FPE Stab-lok circuit breakers. Since they are not UL listed and approved. Consumer Product and Safety Commission a Federal Government Website had a recall on the Panel. But please keep in mind there are millions of the panel out there.
